As you age, it’s tempting to ignore the signs of a failing body and keep going as though you are still 18 years old. What you may not realise is that you have other vision problems, which an optician will spot using their thorough tests. Whilst Presbyopia, the condition that is resolved by reading glasses, is fairly benign, other eye conditions may not be, and it’s important that you rule out any other problems as soon as possible.
• General health issues – eye strain and headaches are common side-effects of poor vision and by putting off an eye exam, you are letting yourself in for more general health problems. Bending over to read things clearly, moving things in an out of focus to try and find the right position and not being able to read in important situations such as whilst driving can all be dangerous.
• It’s more than likely that your blurry vision is just age creeping up on you, but it’s always worth getting your vision checked out as soon as you notice there’s a problem. That way, you can solve the problem and get on with your life with one less thing to worry about.
