Prescription Glasses – More than Just Fashion

Reading glasses and prescription glasses have become fashionable accessories over the years, but they are more than just stylish eyewear.

As a nation we are more likely to worry about dental care and general GP check-ups than eyecare. Too many people in the UK do not even realise that they need prescription glasses, because they do not have regular eye tests.

Regular eye tests are an extremely important part of our overall health and should not be written off by any means. But shocking research by RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) has revealed that a large number of people have never had an eye-test before, and similarly, a large number of people continue to drive with prescription glasses – either knowingly, or unknowingly.

Prescription Glasses – A Fashion Statement

Spectacles have become a true statement in the fashionable world of designer wear. The extremely popular ‘geek chic’ or ‘sexy secretary’ look has transformed ugly specs into attractive items of fashionwear. They have become a very appealing accessory for both men and women, with clear lens reading glasses taking over the high street by storm. Not only are clear lenses becoming popular with the public, but prescription glasses are being worn for trend purposes, rather than for practicality.

More than Just a Stylish Accessory

Those who have prescription glasses either for long-sightedness or short-sightedness do not wear their specs as often as they should, and in fact, wear their glasses if it compliments their chosen outfit. Whilst some may opt for contact lenses as a replacement for prescription glasses, others will just omit all visual aids altogether.

Not wearing your prescription glasses when your eyesight is poor can cause discomfort in your eyes, leave you feeling dizzy, or give you a painful headache. But beauty dictates that when there’s no pain, there’s no gain.

So how can we tackle this problem? These days, the range of frames on the market has become so vast, and increased availability means that prices are more attractive. Years ago, prescription glasses were highly priced, and choice and style were generally poor. With the rise of quality yet cheap prescription glasses, it is now possible for spectacle wearers to own several pairs of glasses that can compliment different outfits for different occasions.
