Prescription glasses can be expensive to replace, so we should take care of them in all ways possible - here are some tips on how to clean them.
Your prescription glasses can get dirty and greasy from everyday use, so it is important to remove oil and dirt from your lenses, frames, hinges, screws and nose pads. Ideally, this should be done at the end of each day, but most people forget the importance of spectacle maintenance.
Prescription glasses don’t come cheap – especially if you have a taste for designer clobber. If you have spent a fair amount on your specs then you will probably want to ensure that they don’t get damaged from everyday wear and tear.
The oil from your skin can smear your lenses, loosen the screws on your spectacles, and even turn your nose pads green. This is why glasses should be cleaned daily. Always keep your prescription glasses in the case that they were provided in (or buy your own), and clean your lenses with a soft and lint free cloth whenever there is dirt build up.
A Light Rinse
For a light cleaning method, run your lenses under warm water. You can use a mild soap to clean them with, and a soft cloth if necessary. When wiping the soap suds off, always do it in a circular motion, and then rinse off with warm water. Always dry your prescription glasses with care – use a chamois or soft cotton towel to make sure that you do not damage the lenses.
Dunk and Dip Method
This cleaning formula is ideal for regular application. Remove any grime with a toothbrush before dunking – be careful not to graze the face of the lens.
Fill the basin with mild soap and water. Dip your prescription glasses in the soapy water and then rinse under a warm tap. Using a damp cloth and applying light force, clean a lens both inside and outside, and then repeat with the other. Run the spectacles under the tap again, and then dry.
Cleaning Tips for Prescription Glasses
- Try not to touch your lenses with your finger when they are dry as dirt particles can scratch your lenses.
- Never use ammonia cleaners or other harsh chemicals as they can damage the protective coating on your specs.
- 3.Try to wash, wipe and look after them every night.
