Regular eye examinations are essential for clear, comfortable vision and RNIB urges everyone in the UK to get tested for distance or reading glasses - so have you been tested?
Regular eye tests should be pencilled into everyone’s diaries – the reality is unfortunate, with too many people not realising that they require reading glasses or distance glasses for their everyday conducts.
Research has revealed that a shocking number of people have never had an eye-test before, a large number people drive without their glasses on, and a large number of people who claim that their sight is perfect, failed eye examinations when tested. It is clear from the reports by RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) that people in the UK are unaware that they need reading glasses or long distance glasses.
You Could Need Reading Glasses…
If you have never been tested for distance glasses or reading glasses then how do you know that you don’t need them? There are hundreds of different ways to do the tests in your eye examination and your local optician will tailor your eye examination to suit your individual needs.
Reading glasses could change your life forever. Straining due to poor eyesight can lead to headaches, migraines and dizziness. If you work in front of a computer at work or read documents, books and papers for long periods of time, you could suffer from sight related headaches. Reading glasses not only improve your vision, but could improve your day to day health.
Reading Glasses Could Save Your Life
The main purpose of an eye examination is to help you achieve clear, comfortable vision and healthier eyes. But what most people are not aware of is that they are an important health check too – an optician can not only determine whether you need distance or reading glasses, but eye tests can also give indications of other medical conditions. This includes diabetes, MS, eye tumours, hypertension and strokes.
Anita Lightstone, RNIB’s Head of Eye Health, says: “An eye test is a vital health check for your eyes. A regular eye test can help detect eye diseases before you notice the effect on your sight. Early treatment can often prevent your sight from getting worse.”
So an eye test could reveal whether you need reading glasses, distance glasses or whether you have other health problems.

The trend of reading glasses has gone through the roof over the years, and now everybody is shopping for sexy, stylish and chic reading glasses. UK retailers are catering to this unstoppable trend and are selling reading glasses that have clear lenses for people who just want to achieve the ‘reading glasses look’.
